The Restoration
Sitting on five mowed acres and 20 wooded acres, our home features much of the
original wood siding now painted, 42 windows with replacement windows cut to fit
existing openings, and porches facing North, South, East, and West. The interior consists
of 15 rooms to include a parlor, a cloak room, and a butler's pantry along with a
breakfast room, a dining room, a living room, an office, and the bedrooms with baths.
Floors are all original heart pine that we sanded and sealed. Woodwork and the 26
interior doors are also original. Ceilings downstairs approach 11 feet in height
and walls throughout are plaster. For comfort and efficiency, eighteen ceiling fans
were installed.
The restoration process began mid-June of 2004 and was completed by the first week
of December of 2004, an amazing period of approximately five and one-half months.
We were moved-in and decorated for the holidays in time for the community Holiday
Home Tour to benefit cancer patients in our county that same year.
The teams of craftsmen who restored our home worked diligently and with purpose
and with a sense of contribution and we were, and remain, grateful.
It has exceeded our expectations.
